I’ve been obsessed with clusters of silver all displayed together for a while now. I’m a big fan of like objects in different shapes and sizes grouped together, but I’d been failing on getting the silver polished for way too long. However, I finally did it (and reclaimed my sideboard from my son’s LEGO police station) and then filled the pieces with shiny ornaments. Why are shiny things so appealing? I don’t know exactly, but I know I like them and the more you can fit in one space, the better. Here I added a tall glass (the reflective quality adds to the sparkle) vase as well. As always, stick to just a few colors for the greatest impact. The red works so well with the silver, the green just adds a touch of interest, and I love the way the silver ornaments add to the rest of the silver display. This would work just as well with a large collection of glass objects as well. The key factors here are that we’re using things we already own, and there is nothing more easy than pouring ornament balls into vessels. Your holiday guests will think you’ve put in major effort to create such a beautiful display, and you don’t have to spend a moment stressing over your decor.
Have you tried the boiling water/baking soda trick?? My mom just did it for her silver to get it ready for the holidays – she told me about it and I did it for the pieces I used at my party! Google the proportions but I think it’s a cup of baking soda per gallon of water – pour soda into boiling water, then pour soda/water mixture over your silver which you’ve put in the bottom of a receptacle lined with tin foil. The chemical reaction between the foil, soda, and silver eliminates the tarnish. It actually works!![;)](/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)
