Ludwig Mies van der Rohe’s Barcelona chair has been a design icon for many years, but possibly too modern to fit into most decors with its chrome legs and leather upholstery. The iconic Butaca chair has a similar flowing silhouette – designed by Mexican architect Luis Barragan – and is traditionally made with an oak frame and wicker seating for a more casual lifestyle. Viva Terra has re-imagined these classic inspirations with an eco-friendly twist using organic color-grown cotton and reclaimed jute coffee sacks for the upholstery on these beautifully hand-built chairs.
These Butaca chairs and footstools not only are comfortable due to their design origin and upholstery, but are versatile depending on the textile choice for the cushions. The jute coffee sack finishing is rustic (top), while the natural cotton is classic and clean (above) versus the blue cotton corte with traditional embroidery that is masculine, yet a little bohemian (below). A great chair that can be tailored for any decor.
