Alice Supply Co. Makes Chores More Fun

Alice Supply Co., Garden Tools, Household Tools

Chores aren’t exactly at the top of the list of the most stylish things to do. But Alice Supply Co. is doing something to change that by creating a line of mundane household items that are big on design. Fix-it projects would be much more fun with a toolbox like this.

Even the tools that go in the toolbox get a makeover. As you could probably guess, I’m partial to the stripes, especially the marine stripes.

And don’t worry, there are tools for your outdoor living too. Up your curb appeal with a fun hose (just beware that these are only meant for light watering).

Speaking of curb appeal, you’ll have the most fashionable garbage cans on the street with these garbage bags, and you won’t need to worry about having an eye-sore of a trash bag at your next party.

Even the most unmentionable but necessary household objects are more appealing when you add fun patterns. And there’s much more! Spring cleaning is looking a bit more attractive now.

Everyone loves a party lantern, right? But why go with your typical lantern when you can get something so much cooler? Check out these origami lanterns from Etsy shop Fiberstore. Their 3-dimensional quality makes them so much more visually interesting and I love, love, love the colors!

The mint color is definitely my favorite.

But if you prefer earthy colors, the bordeaux is quite striking as well.

And they offer some very cool light fixtures as well like this origami snowflake lantern. Everything is available in more than 60 colors which means you can get exactly the look you want!

Somehow I missed that Williams-Sonoma launched a new brand last year called Marks and Graham. I was actually a bit surprised since they had shut down their Williams-Sonoma Home line that they would launch another home decor business, but this one focuses on personalized items for your home and entertaining needs, and I have to say that I’m pretty excited about it. The prices are great, and I love giving (and receiving) monogrammed gifts. This is the perfect source for hostess, engagement, house warming, and wedding gifts. Here are a few of my favorite pieces, starting with the stunning monogrammed glass hurricane.

Personalized Acrylic Tray

Monogrammed Mint Julep Cups

Linen Satin Stitch Placemats

Bitty Bags

Linen Cosmetic Bags

There is so much more that they offer including personalized jewelry and leather goods so if you’re looking for a gift or just want to treat yourself, check out Marks and Graham.

Homie Awards, Instagram

I don’t like to beg, but every once in a while there comes a time when it’s just necessary. This week is the nomination period for the 2013 Homie awards over at Apartment Therapy. For those of you who have already nominated Chateau & Bungalow, I am forever grateful. For the past two years, we’ve landed in 32nd place, which is no small feat considering there are hundreds and hundreds of nominations, but this year I know we can do better!

Right now we’re in 31st place, which while better than last year, isn’t quite the jump in spots I was hoping for. I know everyone is very busy, but if you can take just 30 seconds and vote, I would be so thankful. You do need to login to vote (once on the page the link to do so is below the list of previous winners and above the list of current nominations), but every vote truly helps us jump up the list, and even if we don’t make it to those top six spots for the finals, it greatly increases our exposure in the world of home design and inspiration blogs. Voting is open through Friday, Feb. 8th. Note, this is also a great way to find more awesome home design blogs (and as long as you keep reading ours, I’m cool with that!). We’ve grown so much in the past year, and I know the next year ahead is going to be a fabulous one here at C&B.

In other news, we’ve added more ways for you to follow what’s happening at C&B and behind the scenes. Check out what we’re up to on , follow us on Twitter (@chateaubungalow), and now you can follow us on (@chateauandbungalow) too!

Thank you so much for all your support and please, don’t forget to vote!

Decorating with Driftwood

Driftwood is a common, if not essential, element to the decor of any coastal inspired home, but it’s certainly become popular for those that live inland as well. Driftwood is not only wonderful for it’s rustic element, but also because it is also so sculptural, and really you’ll never have two pieces of driftwood that are exactly alike. Here are some of my favorite driftwood items for your home, starting with the Driftwood Chandelier by Terrain.

This vintage driftwood lamp is available in The Modern Historic’s Etsy shop, and at over two feet tall, it’s certain to make a stunning statement.

It’s also a great look for accessories like this mirror from All Driftwood Furniture.

In fact, All Driftwood Furniture it one of the best sources I found for authentic and unique designs of driftwood furniture, like this driftwood console table…

and this driftwood mantle.

This Maine driftwood bed from Designs Adrift shows that driftwood can even be used to build more elaborate and sturdy pieces.

And even the big retailers are getting in on the driftwood trend with products like this affordably priced driftwood end table from Crate & Barrel.

And if you rather create your own masterpiece for your home, I found a great site called Outer Banks Driftwood where you can buy unaltered pieces of driftwood in sizes from just a few inches to several yards long.

If you have a driftwood creation that you’ve made, we’d love for you to to share with our readers.

DIY Heart Garland

DIY Valentine's Decorations, Party Decor, Valentine's Day, wedding decor

Lately, Pamela has been really into making garland. It’s a good activity to keep the kids busy on a cold winter afternoon, and they enjoy decorating their rooms with it. While it’s common to have around the house at Christmas time, it donned on me that a simple alteration to where you affix the strips of paper would change it from a circle to a heart, making it perfect for Valentine’s Day. So while at her house the other day, I pulled out all the strips of pink and red paper and made this heart garland by simple stapling the paper face to face instead of in an overlapping pattern.

I did them so that the direction of the hearts rotated, but if you forget to do that as you go, you can easily do it after. You can make this to do a countdown to Valentine’s Day or it would be great as party decorations strung across the ceiling. It could be sweet as part of a wedding celebration too. And it’s so easy to make that long or short garlands can be whipped up in no time.

DIY Custom Napkins

I love having friends who are crafty (don’t worry, I love those of you who aren’t as well), especially when they want to share their fun projects with us. My good friend Maaike was hosting a dinner party for her husband’s 40th birthday last week and decided to make her own napkins. Playing off the design of EmersonMade’s EAT napkins, Maaike created her own using some old IKEA draperies, a stencil, and a fabric pen.

Starting at the outer edge of the napkins she had sewn up from the curtains, she filled in the stencil using the fabric pen in reverse order.

And voila! How simple is that? These would be fun to do with people’s names or initials as well. Can we also just take a look at how awesome the combination of burlap, silver, and glass look together. I love the mix of rustic and refinery.

Oh, and I can’t skip showing you how the whole table came out. I just love the stack of various sized books mixed with silver candlesticks and simple flowers. It’s manly but elegant at the same time. And with the rustic linens and industrial chairs, the overall look just really came together as cool and casual while still being simply lovely.
