Color Crush: Le Creuset’s Ocean

Coastal Decor, color, Le Creuset, Williams-Sonoma

While flipping through the special edition Thanksgiving catalog from Williams-Sonoma, I came across a photo of a gorgeous pot of madeira-sage turkey gravy. Yummm? Well, I’m sure it tastes really good, but I said “gorgeous pot.” As in I am obsessed with the color of the pot. It is Le Creuset’s ocean color which is available exclusively at Williams-Sonoma.

I don’t know what it is about the color. Perhaps it is the smokiness of it. It’s not quite blue, not quite gray. No matter what it’s “it” factor is, I’m pretty sure that you could serve Spam in it and people would be begging to have some because of how pretty it is on the eyes.

I’ve been dreaming up a new kitchen in my head and really had envisioned it being green and white, but suddenly all I can picture is a crisp white kitchen with Le Creuset ocean dutch ovens and bakeware on the stove-top and shelves. It’s just dreamy. And that’s really how you should pick colors to fill your home with if you want to be certain you’re going to love it.

Medical Office Designs, Office Designs, Sequence Genetic and Itegrated Wellness

Front Desk

Last spring I was thrilled to receive the phone call from a friend who was working on opening a genetic wellness center in East Greenwich, RI. Sequence Genetic + Integrated Wellness combines genetic testing along with in person consultations and assessments with a physician and holistic counselor to create a customized wellness plan using many elements including massage, acupuncture, nutritional counseling, yoga, and more to improve your health. Besides being excited for her about this very cool endeavor, I was so excited that she asked me to come up with the design for their office space. The look needed to be sleek and modern to reflect the advanced technology they are using, but it also needed to have a boutique service vibe as their services are highly customized to each patient. We started from nothing but concrete floors and framed walls and turned it into what I think is a welcoming but sophisticated space for them to treat their patients.

There are many elements of the space that I love, but one of my absolute favorites is the way we carried the stained wood up the wall of the treatment rooms. I also love the way the metallic accents mix with the earth tones of the wood and how we were able to layer so much texture by using different finishes and patterns but not bringing in too many colors.

I can’t wait to try out the services they offer, and if you’re interested too, check out Living Social where Sequence is offering 50% off on a wellness package for the next four days. It’s an entirely new way to look at health and it’s going to be huge!

Better than Restaurant French Fries You Can Make Yourself

Comfort Food, Recipes

So I’ve been dying to try this recipe for Slow-Fried French Fries since I saw it a few months ago in Bon Appetit. And I have to say after making them last week that they really are divine. They’d be perfect to pair with steaks or sliders when your entertaining with comfort food this winter or as an appetizer served in paper cones.

I also tried making them with butternut squash. They were so delicious, but I should have pulled them out of the oil a few minutes earlier. You can check out the recipe for both kinds that I posted over at Parentables, and if you have a spare hour, I highly recommend whipping some of these up. I’ve never really fried anything in my life, but these were super easy to make and really yummy too.

Specialty Dinnerware, Uncommon Goods

There are some things that just go together like grilled cheese and tomato soup and cookies and ice cream. And as the days become shorter and we turn to comfort foods to get us through the colder months of the year, it’s a good time to think about how to hibernate in style this winter. Even if you aren’t entertaining your friends around the fireplace, it’s nice to have nice things for yourself on a daily basis to make the winter fly by faster or to add that extra special something to a lazy Sunday by the fire. I just came across this ceramic soup and sandwich tray set at Uncommon Goods and think a set of them would be a fabulous addition to my serving pieces.

I’m a big soup fan, and I also love this oyster shaped soup and cracker bowl–convenient and the perfect addition to any table.

And while this ceramic TV dinner tray isn’t necessarily a winter must-have, I still think it’s really fun and perfect for those nights when you want to snuggle into the catch and watch a movie. It’d also make a great kids plate since you know it’s totally gross when mac n’ cheese and peas touch each other!

Now I need to go look up some new comfort food recipes. Yum!

Simple and Chic Staircase

color, Staircase Inspiration

Phew, we’re back! We survived Sandy, and while some of Newport was pretty hard hit with flooding and damage from the wind and waves, we really made out quite well considering how much damage there is in other parts of the state and further down along the coast in Connecticut, New York, and New Jersey. I don’t know about you, but I need a pick-me-up, and this staircase from a German home  put a smile on my face today. There are several things I love about it, not the least of which is the bold pop of pink! But another aspect that I really love is the simple color scheme. Even though the runner is bold, it sits against a white backdrop. Solid white walls would make a statement, but wainscoting that lines the stairwell and hall below add visual interest that make this staircase exceptionally chic and elegant without being overly fussy. It’s a great example of how restraint can create a bigger impact and how adding texture instead of more color is a great way to spruce up a space.
