Fall Home Decor, Restoration Hardware

Last week gazillions of pounds of paper catalogs were shipped to homes across the country. There’s a good chance yours was one of them. Yes, the 692 page Restoration Hardware Fall 2012 Source Book arrived in homes across the land, and just to ensure that it wouldn’t be lonely, it came with a 156 page supplement titled “Big Style, Small Spaces.” Besides the fact that it is insanely expensive to produce a catalog at all, never mind one of this size, it also seems to be an enormous assault on the environment. I am not opposed to all catalogs, but this seems rather excessive. Part of me really didn’t even want to open the books. I mean I barely have time to get a proper dinner on the table for my kids, how am I supposed to get through over 800 pages of catalog reading. But, alas the pull was too strong, and with nothing going on on Saturday night, I just had to know what warranted such a GI-NOR-MOUS catalog. And of course, it didn’t take long before I found some fabulous pieces. So before you spend hours perusing it, I’ll save you the time and share two dozen pieces that I found truly fabulous in the Fall Restoration Hardware look book (in no particular order other than that in which I noticed them).

The Milo Bar Cart pays homage to that of the 1950s designed cart by Milo Baughman. I love the X-factor along with the polished nickel.

The Magnus Chair and its partners in crime the Forma and Hagan Chairs are available painted, stained, or weathered in 12 finishes making them great for many spaces, but it’s their price point–starting at $69–that really makes them a fabulous find.

And the Remy and Marcel Chairs are versatile, cool, and also affordable.

There’s no such thing as having enough closet space, and this Vintage Tailor’s Rack is the perfect addition to your clothing storage needs. It’s so appealing that you’ll be content with it right out in the open of your room.

It’s not easy to find a piece that looks great for both a seating area and sleeping accommodations, but the Maison Daybed really pulls it off. Elegant and functional all in one.

It is simply elegant sofas like the Auguste Salon Sofa that make me wish I had a formal sitting room. It would be equally at home in a fabulous dressing room or a grand entryway, but it definitely makes me want to gather with my girlfriends for tea or fashion.

The greatest design dilemma of the 21st century may just be how to gracefully display the massive flat screen televisions that are found in almost every home nowadays. While it may not make it a masterpiece, the TV Easel sure does make an otherwise vapid black hole in the living room into something much more visually interesting and way less of an eye sore.

The Rounded Oak Dresser and Night Stand offer a new twist on traditional pieces while maintaining a classic look. In addition to the bedroom, these pieces would be great side pieces in a hallway, entry, dining room, or living room.

This reproduction of the 1960s Cantilever Chair is always sleek and sure to be a favorite for many more decades to come.

The Sullivan Upholstered Platform Bed may just be my dream bed. I love the low profile of a platform bed and tailoring of an upholstered headboard, and I pretty much just want to collapse into this one.

Of course I wouldn’t need a bed at all if I had the Soho Tufted Upholstered Daybed. Talk about the perfect place to lounge while you read the Sunday Times Style Section or catch up on the latest new releases.

You know how we love an interior ladder, and the 1950s Dutch Shipyard Shelving comes complete with built in ladder, rustic elegance, and plenty of storage.

For those who hate to conform, the Stack 50 Table offers sculpture and functional dining table in one.

There is just something about a linen chaise that I can’t get enough of, and the Toulouse Chaise certainly delivers.

And while we’re on the topic of linen, these Linen Office Storage Accessories would certainly make any office look chic and elegant.

As would the Palladian Crystal Urn Table Lamp.

The art deco style of the Odeon Glass Fringe Chandelier (available in 3, 5, and 7 rings) would be gorgeous in a dining room, foyer, or glamorous bedroom.

I’ve been obsessed with pewter since my days at Rue de France, and the Pewter Bath Accessories are really calling my name. They take any bathroom to a new level of sophistication.

I’m also a big fan of roman shades and I love the way the Relaxed Roman Shade is tailored yet soft.

And I’m sure it’s no surprise from my previous nautical rope inspired posts that I consider the Dakota Rope Drapery Tiebacks a must-have.

And while Restoration Hardware is known for their hotel style bedding, this Garment-Dyed Linen Bedding is to die for! I don’t know if I’d ever get up in the morning. It’s perfect for the shabby chic or coastal cottage home as well as those that have an organic feel to them.

But when I do get out of that bed, I want to step onto the Chunky Braided Wool Rug for sure.

And of course, with my love of stripes, I would HAVE to have the Flatweave Pinstripe Wool Rug.

I’m quite drawn to the Diamante Flatweave Linen Rug too. I’d have to make my house a no shoes allowed zone to let it into it though.

Truth be told, there are a lot more great finds in these catalogs, but it still drives me nuts that they put them out in such a grandiose way. I would much prefer they take the tens of millions of dollars (my own semi-educated guess based on my years in the catalog industry) they put into producing them, and instead lower some of their prices. I bet that would increase sales too! Not only that, but I don’t know if I’ll be able to commit to spending so much time with one company’s catalog again…at least not until I’m retired. But if you are in need of some pieces that you’re ready to invest in, Restoration Hardware is a great place to start right now. Now, if you’ll excuse me I need to get back to work so I can afford a bigger house to put all of my new favorite things in.
